The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
I believe in God, (THE GOOD) who is bigger and more powerful than any sickness or any trial that I have to face in life. (Psalms 27:1) I believe He is never, ever surprised by what I am going through, and that He has a plan ahead of time for my life. I believe that ALL THINGS work together for my good because I love God and because He has chosen me to be His child. (Romans 8:28) And I believe He wants me to be healthy and prosper in life (John 1:2) and that He wants me to live abundantly (John 10:10).
I also believe there is an enemy, Satan (THE BAD) who is constantly at war with the forces of good, and he would like to influence me NOT to believe. He would like to plant thoughts of fear and doubt in my mind to win me over to his negative, self-degrading way of thinking. Satan has an agenda for my life too, only it’s not a good one. He wants to have followers too, but the end of following him leads to death (Proverbs 14:12) He goes about “seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8) Why would I want to follow the thinking of a guy whose goal for me is to kill, steal, and destroy my life? (John 10:10) And because I believe that Satan is just as real as God (but not nearly as powerful), I am compelled in my heart to follow God and not Satan.
So if we know who the Good is, and who the Bad is, then who is THE UGLY? The ugly is a person who is living by doubt and seeing the bad in everything. The ugly is me. The ugly is any of us without hope. Jesus went to the cross for the ugly. He made a way for us to become holy and beautiful. He made a way that we could trade in our ugliness and become new creatures. When we give our hearts to Him, and He places His spirit in us, we become like Him, and that changes us from Ugly over to the good side.
